Work Experience – St James College

Can you give a Year 10 student the opportunity to gain the skills, experience and confidence they need to get a job?

Work Experience gives  students real life work experience that can help them get a job. Work experience places students in real life unpaid work experience placements. It helps them learn new skills to potential future employers.

Work experience placements are unpaid.  We are asking if you can host a student in your business for up to 5 days (flexible) during the week of 24 June 2019

Benefits for your business

Being a work experience host provides an opportunity to give a student the chance to show they could be the right fit for your business.

Businesses who offer job seekers ongoing employment after the placement may also be eligible for generous government incentives and subsidies

Is your business eligible?

A work experience placement can be undertaken in businesses run for profit, not-for-profit organisations and local, state, territory and Australian government agencies.

What kind of activities can I offer students on work experience?

Through demonstration of tasks and coaching, a student participating in a work experience can often do many of the tasks you might expect a paid employee to do.

What does being a host business involve?

To assist a student to gain real work-like experience your role as a work experience host business will involve:

  • providing a work experience placement for up to 5 days during week commencing 24 June 2019
  • providing supervision, on-the-job training and monitoring attendance, and
  • ensuring that the placement meets all relevant work health and safety requirements.

The school will prepare a work experience agreement prior to the placement which ensures the student is covered for any injury or liability under the school’s work program. There is no risk or liability for the host employer.
