From very humble beginnings with co-owners Paul Johnston and Tracy Johnston behind one laptop on a kitchen table, the first issue of Style was 16 pages with a distribution of 11,000 copies around the Ascot and Clayfield area. Fast-forward 13 years (it’s our 13th birthday in July 2014) and Style Magazines has blossomed into Brisbane’s authority on what’s hot, with 60,000 copies of our 90-page magazine distributed monthly around the greater Brisbane area. Aiding our loyal followers with lifestyle, fashion and foodie fixes through a range of platforms, we’re constantly expanding with our local prestige magazine, strong digital presence and Custom Publishing service.
Maintaining a home-grown feel with an upscale aesthetic and heavier cover has put Style pride-of-place on the coffee tables of cute and quirky cafes, thriving local businesses and affluent Brisbane homes. We leave Hollywood celebs to other publications; we’re all about uncovering local talent making Brisbane better. Our predominantly female readership means Style reigns supreme in the local fashion stakes, creating prime positions for effective, well-written advertorial content and advertising.
After working closely with shopping centre clients in Style, our business organically grew to include our Custom Publishing arm. Shying away from boring catalogues, we create beautiful magazines with luxe fashion shoots, engaging editorial and attractive, effective layouts. The result is a table-worthy publication readers want to hold on to, and increased sales and foot traffic in our centres. We handle the project end-to-end, with no business too big or too small.
With the launch of our brand spankin’ new website late last year and an increased social media presence, our readers can’t get enough of Style. Co-owner Paul Johnston saw our greatest challenge as trying to include all of the new businesses and events in Brisbane into a free magazine, so sought to overcome this with our new digital strategy. We’re now engaging with our audience better than ever before, thus building our reputation in the community and making advertising more effective.
