You’re invited to attend an important community event on suicide awareness hosted by CQUniversity Brisbane Campus. 

The event will include a research update on suicide in Australia and a safeTalk Suicide Awareness Training Workshop.

Experts presenting at the Research Forum include:

Professor Chris Doran is a Professor of Health Economics at CQUniversity. His current appointment involves working with researchers, clinicians and policy makers in building and translating health economic capacity to improve population health.

Dr Irina Kinchin is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at CQUniversity. Irina has worked as a Health Economist since 2013 and demonstrated multidisciplinary expertise clustered around Aboriginal empowerment, social, emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Dr Fiona Shand is a Senior Research Fellow at the Black Dog Institute and part of the Centre of Research Excellence in Suicide Prevention (CRESP) and LifeSpan Research Director. Her research program focuses on suicide prevention, including interventions for suicide prevention, multi-level models of suicide prevention, and care after a suicide attempt.

Dr Carla Meurk is a Project Manager for Partners in Prevention: Understanding and Enhancing First Responses to Suicide Crisis Situations at the Queensland Forensic Mental Health Service, Honorary Senior Fellow at The University of Queensland, and Principal Researcher at Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research. Carla’s research interests are in mixed method approaches to enhancing the translational validity of research and in improving the use of evidence in mental health and addiction services and policy.

A representative from MATES in Construction will be speaking about their work in reducing the high levels of suicide among Australian construction workers. It is owned and controlled by the Australian Building and Construction Industry, a charity established in 2008.

The safeTalk Suicide Awareness Workshop will be presented by Joanne Smith and Belinda Hodgson.
