No-one should be homeless and alone at Christmas – to give young people the best possible chance of creating a new future they deserve, we need your help today.

At Brisbane Youth Service, we work every day to create new futures for young people aged 12-25 years and their families. The young people we meet continue to amaze and inspire us with their resilience and desire to face their challenges and move forward in their lives.

Please help us by giving to our ‘A Home for Christmas Appeal’ and provide young people, like Courtney, and their families with a safe place to stay this Christmas. Every $1,000 raised will supply a young person with an essential home starter pack to transform their house into a home.

  • $70  provides a young person with a safe place to stay for one night
  • $120  provides a family with a safe place to stay for one night
  • $250  provides an essential kitchen pack for a young person
  • $500  provides a family with a safe place to stay for one week
  • $1,000 provides a young person with an essential home starter pack
  • $1,500 provides a family with an essential home starter pack

Courtney’s Story

“I was sleeping on a single mattress on the floor at a friend’s place with my son… all my belongings in a garbage bag… I was completely alone.”

“I was struggling until Brisbane Youth Service and Zoe, my youth worker, came into my life and helped me – she believed in me. It was a very difficult time in my life… I was struggling… I wasn’t really sure if I wanted to be here anymore…

“The team at Brisbane Youth Service gave me the support I desperately needed, which has given me the confidence to go on. They supported me for over 6 months and were always there at times of crisis. Their financial support and assistance with setting up a house with furniture, a fridge and a microwave was the difference between me living on the street or living in a home.

“I’m amazed at the help I have received – the moment I got those keys it was a relief. Reflecting back from where I came to where I am now, knowing I can provide for my son, fills me with joy. We’re so blessed to have our own little place to call home… a place where we feel safe.”

Courtney now has stability in her life and has completed a Certificate in Aged Care. She is about to begin a Bachelor of Nursing, confident that she is on the road to creating a new future for herself and young son.

Please help us to raise $20,000 this Christmas so that we can continue to provide a place to call home for 20 more young people, like Courtney, by transitioning them from homelessness into a home of their own.

In the past 12 months we have provided over 26,000 occasions of support to 1,264 vulnerable young people and their children, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Support included free access to confidential services which include crisis and transitional housing, tenancy support, emergency relief, medical clinic, mental health services, street outreach and specialty help for young women and families.

  • More than half were homeless.
  • Two-thirds had experienced family or relationship violence.
  • Almost half had a diagnosed mental health issue.

You don’t have to be a youth worker, social worker or a psychologist to have an impact in the life of a vulnerable young person. By making a gift today you can help create a home for a young person or a young family this Christmas.
